Neurodiversity Research

A groundbreaking secondary meta-analysis examining over 200,000 individuals across 400+ studies reveals that left-handedness is significantly more common in neurodivergent populations than previously understood.
The research, led by Julian Packheiser from Ruhr University Bochum, found particularly strong connections between left-handedness and autism, with weaker but still significant associations for ADHD and dyslexia. The study showed left-handedness was especially increased in conditions that begin early in life and involve language components.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has hired David Geier, a vaccine critic without a medical degree, to lead a federal study investigating links between vaccines and autism—despite decades of research disproving such connections.
Geier, who was disciplined by Maryland authorities in 2011 for practicing medicine without a license, has a controversial history of promoting debunked theories. Along with his father Mark Geier (whose medical license was revoked in multiple states), he promoted dangerous "treatments" for autistic children using the cancer drug Lupron, charging families thousands of dollars monthly.
Scientists and autism advocates express alarm that choosing a researcher with predetermined conclusions will produce flawed results, potentially undermining public health and vaccine confidence. The appointment appears designed to provide Kennedy with desired outcomes rather than objective scientific inquiry.
The broader NIH initiative would also link Medicare, Medicaid, pharmacy records, smartwatch data, and genetic information to study autism causes, raising privacy concerns and fears about surveillance of the autism community.
Global Headlines

Five Proud Boys leaders, previously convicted for their roles in the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, have filed a $100 million lawsuit against the US government, claiming their constitutional rights were violated during prosecution.
The lawsuit alleges FBI agents and prosecutors were motivated by personal biases and engaged in "evidence tampering" and "witness intimidation." All five had their sentences pardoned or commuted by President Trump earlier this year.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is working to arrange a meeting with US President Donald Trump at the upcoming G7 summit in Canada, set for June 15-17 in Kananaskis, Alberta.
A Ukrainian delegation's recent visit to Washington was partly aimed at preparing for this potential meeting, according to Zelenskyy's Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak. The delegation also discussed continuing military aid and new sanctions measures targeting Russian energy exports.
