Margaret Thatcher's Autism Insights Through Private Letters
The Independent | September 13, 2025
A new biography reveals intriguing insights about Margaret Thatcher through her private correspondence with her sister. Author Tina Gaudoin discovered letters showing obsessive precision and list-making patterns, leading to speculation about potential neurodiversity. The research highlights how Thatcher's directness, literal thinking, and inability to feel embarrassment may have contributed to her political success. Thatcher's letters were "full of lists – of clothes, of fabrics, of accessories and movies she'd seen; of excruciatingly dull details" written with obsessive precision. She famously didn't understand jokes and punchlines had to be explained to her. Her famous lack of empathy and inability to sleep were arguably telltale traits. Experts suggest such traits, rather than being limitations, can function as advantages in leadership roles - similar to Einstein, Gates, Thunberg, and Jobs.

Tens of Thousands Join Pro-Palestinian March in New Zealand's Biggest City
Reuters | September 13, 2025
Thousands participated in Auckland's largest pro-Palestinian march since the Gaza conflict began, with organizers claiming 50,000 attendees while police estimated 20,000. The peaceful "March for Humanity" rally featured banners reading "Don't normalise genocide" and "Grow a spine stand with Palestine." Organizers wanted New Zealand's centre-right coalition government to impose sanctions on Israel. Many carried Palestinian flags and the protest was motivated by a march that shut down Sydney's Harbour Bridge in August.

As Russian Army Inches Closer, Ukrainians Must Decide to Stay or Go
BBC News | September 13, 2025
As Russian forces advance, Ukrainian civilians in front-line towns face life-or-death decisions. An estimated 218,000 people need evacuation from the Donetsk region, including 16,500 children. The BBC traveled with Ukraine's White Angels police to Bilozerske, just 9 miles from the front line, where only 700 inhabitants remain from a pre-war population of 16,000. Many elderly residents choose to stay near family graves and homes despite increasing drone attacks. Civilian casualties in Ukraine reached a three-year high in July, with the highest number killed by short-range drones since the invasion began.
